Email Response and Chat Support
We all understand online chat and email response, which are critical pieces of engagement with your customers as well as within your organization. So it’s critical your employees have both the reading and writing skills required for positive interactions with your customers and each other.
The 35-minute English Versant Writing Test is an English language proficiency test focusing on the English writing skills of those whose first language isn’t English. The test measures the use of English words, phrases and sentences that are appropriate and common in the workplace.
Test-takers respond to questions and provide writing samples via computer allowing us to evaluate each candidate’s grammar, vocabulary, organization, voice & tone, and reading comprehension. Millions of data points are collected with the Versant Writing Test, and that feeds into our patented scoring algorithm.
Security is Built In
The Versant Writing Test takes about 35 minutes and for security reasons, randomly pulls test elements from a large pool of questions. This ensures the highest level of security. Questions reflect a variety of situations that would occur in the workplace, including dictation, summaries and email communication.
Tests can be taken on a computer either in online using a web browser, or offline using Versant’s software. Applicants respond to situations common in the workplace-which require written English skills. This includes taking notes, summarizing their response then composing an email reply.
Automated Scoring Technology
Versant’s advanced artificial intelligence auto-grading assures an unbiased evaluation of every candidates’ writing skills and abilities.
Because the test results are available in minutes, government agencies, corporations or call centers can expedite the process of finding the most qualified respondents. Whether you need 100 – or 1,000 – new hires, this technology allows you to screen applicants quickly.
The way tests are scored so quickly, is by using our proprietary advanced automated scoring systems. This includes the Knowledge Analysis Technologies™ (KAT) engine, which evaluates the meaning of text by examining entire written passages.
The KAT engine is based on Pearson’s unique implementation of Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA), an approach that generates semantic similarity of words and passages by analyzing large bodies of relevant text. LSA can then “understand” the meaning of text much the same as a human reader.
With the automatic scoring technology, detailed score reports become available online for review or download in just 5 minutes. Because of that, there’s no longer the need to wait days, or weeks, to obtain each of your candidates’ scores. That way, hiring decisions can be made within minutes.
Scoring reports include overall scores, with sub-scores on key written communication skills such as:
- voice & tone
- reading comprehension
along with detailed explanations of language capabilities, including suggestions for improvement.
